Manufacturing social enterprise Celtic Offsite is working with Kingfisher Developments Ltd to build new affordable homes for Rhondda Cynon Taff-based housing association RHA Wales.

The development of nine apartments for affordable rent is at the site of the former Royal Mail sorting office in Treorchy.

Kingfisher has appointed Celtic Offsite to manufacture timber frame structures with fitted insulation and windows from their factory in Caerphilly. The low carbon homes will then be completed on site by Kingfisher.

Lisa Lloyd, Project Manager for RHA Wales said:

“It is brilliant to see our contractors are working with Celtic Offsite; a local company that has a huge commitment towards working sustainably, with community benefits embedded in their business model. We look forward to seeing the timber frames on site.”

Celtic Offsite is a new social enterprise within the United Welsh Group. Celtic Offsite supports United Welsh Group and other partners to realise shared ambitions of providing energy efficient homes.

Neil Robins, Managing Director for Celtic Offsite said:

“We are focused on bringing more sustainable housing to South Wales and this opportunity to work with Kingfishers Developments Ltd and RHA Wales is a positive step.

“We look forward to playing our part in delivering these new low carbon homes in Treorchy.”

The Treorchy development is part funded by Social Housing Grant from Welsh Government. It is due for completion later this year.
