Legal Assistant

As Legal Assistant you will play a key role in supporting the Company Solicitor with a range of legal and administrative duties.

You will help ensure the smooth handling of legal matters including property transactions, regulatory compliance, document drafting, legal research and supporting internal colleagues with queries. Working alongside the wider Governance team, you will contribute to maintaining strong governance practices, accurate records, and effective legal processes. 

This role gives you the chance to develop practical skills in housing, property, and regulatory law, gaining experience in a fast‑paced environment where your work will help us deliver the high‑quality services we provide across United Welsh.

  • 12-month fixed-term contract, full-time*
  • £28,195.75 – £29,737.35 (dependant on experience) 
  • Role closes on Friday 22nd May, 12pm (midday)
  • Interview dates: 3rd/4th June

*We understand that some applicants may still be completing studies or sitting exams. For that reason, we are happy for the role to begin on a part‑time basis, increasing to full‑time hours once studies or final assessments are completed.

  • Support the Company Solicitor with day-to-day administration of legal matters with a focus on assisting with property transactions including acquisitions, disposals, leases, easements and section agreements.  
  • Drafting property documentation i.e. transfers, contracts and reports, liaising with external parties such as search providers, solicitors and local authorities, gathering information, and liaising with internal teams. 
  • Help maintain and verify the Property Title Register and ensure data is accurate.  
  • Carry out regular legal research, including monitoring new or changing legislation, case law, and regulatory developments affecting Registered Social Landlords in Wales. 
  • Handle post completion matters such as preparing and submitting Land Transaction Tax returns and Land Registry Applications.  
  • Support the Governance team where legal processes intersect with governance, such as record keeping, regulatory submissions, and responding to information requests. 
  • Assist with Companies House and FCA (Mutuals and Consumer Credit) compliance administration as directed by the Company Solicitor and Company Secretary. 
  • Contribute to the preparation of strategic or statutory reports by providing legally accurate information or supporting documentation. 
  • Work closely with internal colleagues to gather and organise information required for legal matters. 
  • Maintain positive working relationships, offering clear communication and supporting teams with legal queries under appropriate supervision.

You will need to clearly demonstrate how you meet the criteria in your application and cover letter.

  • Strong literacy skills and the ability to summarise complex legal or regulatory information clearly for different audiences
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office, Excel and other IT systems 
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks, often working to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work with discretion and handle sensitive or confidential information appropriately
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting working relationships
  • Flexible and proactive approach to work using own initiative and ability to seek guidance from others where appropriatE 
  • LLB Bachelor of Laws qualification or equivalent degree. 
  • Previous experience working in a legal assistant, paralegal or administrative role
  • Understanding of the Regulatory Framework for Registered Social Landlords in Wales
  • Knowledge of general legal or regulatory frameworks relevant to housing or propertY
  • Experience with research and report writing
  • Familiarity with housing management systems (e.g., OpenHousing) or property and loan security systems (e.g., AssetCore)
  • Basic understanding of property law and conveyancing processes
  • Welsh language skills.
