It’s your responsibility to dispose of your household rubbish. Your local council manages bin collections and can tell you your collection days, how to book bulky waste pick‑ups, and what recycling services are available in your area.
What you can do
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your own home and garden tidy and free from rubbish
- Not leaving rubbish or bulky items in communal areas, hallways or stairwells
- Using bin and recycling facilities correctly, closing lids and doors to prevent overflowing
- Getting rid of large items If you have bulky items to get rid of, contact the Council to get rid of them. Check with neighbours if they have things they want collected and share the cost between you.
Fly tipping
Litter and excessive waste affect the pride we have for where we live, and we understand the negative impact it has on daily life.
To stop rubbish from building up, it must be bagged correctly and placed in the right bins at the collection point, ready for the council to pick up on collection days.
If bulky items are dumped in your area, speak to your local authority in the first instance. If you know who dumped the item, please say. Dumping items could cost residents up to £50 per item in recharges.
