Overview

The re-development at the former Penallta Colliery site has created 48 new low carbon homes in Tredomen, Caerphilly.

All the homes have increased energy efficiency and low carbon technology. This means they will need less energy to power them and use cleaner energy overall, making them kinder to the environment.

There are six one-bedroom apartments, 15 two-bedroom houses and 16 three-bedroom houses, which will be allocated for rent through Caerphilly Council’s Common Housing Register.

10 three-bedroom homes were also sold through an affordable shared ownership scheme with our Harmoni Homes brand, with all profits reinvested into building more affordable homes for South Wales.

Kerry and Rob moved into their home in October 2022 and Kerry said:

‘We have been tenants of United Welsh for the past 12 years and due to our expanded family, we needed a bigger property. We were unable to purchase a property on the open market that met our needs as a family of five due to the rapid rise in the property market.
”Buying with Harmoni Homes through the shared ownership scheme helped us to achieve what we thought was impossible…We are now homeowners!
”We can’t thank Derene and all the team at Harmoni Homes enough for helping us achieve this.”

The Penallta Colliery development benefited from Welsh Government Social Housing Grant funding and completed in summer 2022.
