Looking for rainy day activities to do while the kids are off school? Here are three easy festive crafts to do at home, using items you probably already have around the house.

#1 Halloween and Autumn stickers

Homemade stickers. L:R a purple bat, a jack-o-lantern, an autumn leaf, and a green ghost.

Whether you go spooky or cute with your designs, these DIY stickers will look great on notebooks, phone cases, and tablets.

What you’ll need: Paper, pencils, colourful pens, baking sheets, cello tape, and scissors.

Step 1: Draw your designs.

Step 2: Cut your stickers out. You can leave a white border around your stickers or cut right along the line.

Step 3: Stick a line of cello tape over the baking sheet and place your stickers on the cello tape.

Step 4: Stick another layer of cello tape on top of your stickers, making sure to pat them down.

Step 5: Cut around the shape, making sure you leave a clear edge border.

Step 6: Lastly, peel off the baking paper, and you’ll have some cute homemade stickers!

#2 Cardboard ghosts

Hand holding a cardboard ghost painted white.

Do you have empty kitchen rolls or toilet roll holders lying around? Instead of throwing them out, transform them into spooky cardboard ghosts.

What you’ll need: Toilet or kitchen roll holders, white paint, black paint, a paintbrush, and scissors.

Step 1: Trim the top of your cardboard roll into a point.

Step 2: Trim the bottom of the cardboard roll into curvy or pointy tails.

Step 3: Paint your ghosts white. Leave them to dry.

Step 4: Finally, once the white paint is dry, use black paint to draw the ghosts’ eyes and mouths. Boo-tiful!

#3 Salt painting

Salt painting of a pumpkin.

Just a pinch of salt can give a painting a cool 3D effect. Here’s how you do it:

What you’ll need: Paper, pencil, table salt, glue, paint, and a paintbrush.

Step 1: Draw your picture with a pencil.

Step 2: Go over the lines of your drawing with glue.

Step 3: Sprinkle a coat of salt over the glue.

Step 4: Lastly, lightly paint over the salt. Once dry, you’ll have a sparkly, 3D salt painting.

You don’t have to wait until the October half-term to make these crafts – you can use these crafts for rainy days all year round!
