Tackling loneliness and social isolation: Maggie's Café

08 Mar 2023

Living Well

After living in Devon, Maggie moved back to Wales last year to Cole Court to be closer to her family. Like many of us, she was lonely during the lockdown and missed being around people.

Fast forward to this year and Maggie runs a weekly lunch club for residents in Cole Court, bringing people together over her love of cooking.

Thanks to funding from The Coalfields Regeneration Trust and The Church Fund, Connect staff were able to help Maggie access food hygiene training and make the kitchen the highest standard for food handling and cooking.

Her lunch club is now busy every Monday and is filled with community spirit, helping combat isolation and making sure residents enjoy a warm, home-cooked meal.

Celtic Horizons is now working on revamping the kitchen, providing more space and storage for Maggie’s Café to thrive.
