First look at new 28-home development in Blackmill, Bridgend

The first images showing how a new 28-home development in Blackmill could look have been revealed.

United Welsh is working in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council and Welsh Government on long-standing plans to transform the site east of Cwm Felin and south of Ebenezer Terrace.

Work has now officially started on the development, which will be made up of 14 apartments and 14 houses. This includes 12, two-bedroom houses and two, three-bedroom houses.

All of the homes will be allocated for social rent by Bridgend County Borough Council to households listed upon the Bridgend Common Housing Register.

These are the first images showing how the development could look.

While United Welsh already manages homes across Bridgend county borough, this will be the housing association’s first directly delivered housing development in the area.

Victoria Bolton, Director of Development and Regeneration at United Welsh, said:

“We’re excited to be directly delivering our first development in Bridgend county borough, building on our existing presence in the area and providing more high-quality, affordable homes for residents.

“We are also delighted to be working with Bridgend County Borough Council, Welsh Government and YourSpace Projects.

“Alongside delivering much-needed affordable housing, this project is about growing the community and breathing new life into the area.”

Councillor Colin Davies, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, added: “This project will deliver a mixture of apartments and houses that will provide local people with high-quality energy efficient new homes, and I am looking forward to seeing them take shape.”

The homes will be built to the highest energy efficiency standard (EPC A), with air source heat pumps and rooftop panels to help reduce energy costs for residents.

Celtic Offsite, a social enterprise within the United Welsh Group, will manufacture the timber frame structures for the homes from its factory in Caerphilly.

Work will be carried out on site by contractor YourSpace Projects, with the development expected to be completed in 2028.
