New playground equipment brings outdoor learning to life at Caerphilly infant school

Housing association United Welsh and construction contractor M&J Cosgrove have donated new play equipment and garden furniture to a Caerphilly school, helping create more opportunities for outdoor play and learning.

The donation to Cwmaber Infants School was made as part of M&J Cosgrove’s commitment to deliver community benefits alongside a housing development at the former Windsor Colliery in Abertridwr.

United Welsh is working with the contractor to deliver 152 homes on the Parc Windsor site.

Mrs Natalie Davies, Early Years Practitioner at Cwmaber Infants School, said: “We are incredibly grateful to M&J Cosgrove for their very generous donation of the play equipment and garden furniture for the early years class at Cwmaber Infants.

“It will make such a positive difference to the children and families who use our space, giving the children a wonderful place to play, explore and enjoy time together outdoors.

“We’re so grateful for their kindness and generosity, and we know the children will really see and feel the impact of this donation for years to come.”

Jamie Caveill, Operations Director at M&J Cosgrove, said the company was “more than happy to help out”.

“The play equipment and garden furniture was constructed by our carpenters on site and delivered to the school by our site manager,” Mr Caveill said.

“To be able to donate to a local school can be the potential boost that may help a future carpenter, bricklayer, or site manager take their first step into construction.”

Helen Greenway, Community Benefits Co-ordinator at United Welsh, added: “We want the Parc Windsor development to create wider benefits for the local community, so it is fantastic to see M&J Cosgrove use the skills of its site team to bring the school’s wish list to life.

“The new tables, climbing equipment and raised planting beds will help create an outdoor space that children can enjoy for years to come.”
