Check your smoke alarms

A smoke alarm is often the first warning that there's a fire in your home. It gives you and your family valuable time to get out safely. That's why it's important to test every smoke alarm in your home at least once a week.

What to check

When you’re testing your alarm, ask yourself:

  • Can I hear the alarm clearly throughout my home?
  • Does everyone in my household recognise the sound?
  • Is the alarm free from dust or dirt?
  • Does the alarm sound when I press the test button?
