Set one up or use the one you have.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk\/en\/articles\/basic-bank-accounts#fee-free-basic-bank-accounts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Money Advice Service information<\/a> explains what you need to do to set one up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Online<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All claims are managed online, so you need to know where you can access the internet and you need the skills to go<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1821 size-medium\" title=\"Be like Bob - United Welsh Universal Credit mascot\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unitedwelsh.com\/cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/09\/BOB-Bank-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Be like Bob - United Welsh Universal Credit mascot\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/> online.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcommunities.gov.wales\/directory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Digital Communities Wales<\/a> can tell you where you can find the nearest public computer.<\/p>\n<p>Our Money Advisors can also signpost you to help with using computers and the internet<\/p>\n<p>For United Welsh tenants call: 029 2085 8100<\/p>\n<p>For Newydd tenants call: 0303 040 1998<\/p>\n<p><strong>Budgeting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You need to plan your budget. Universal Credit is paid monthly rather than weekly or fortnightly. The Money Advice Service has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk\/en\/tools\/money-manager\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Money Manager tool<\/a> to help you start budgeting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What else did BOB do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I made an email address<\/li>\n<li>I registered on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/introducing-govuk-verify\/introducing-govuk-verify\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.GOV.UK\/VERIFY<\/a><\/li>\n<li>I started saving a couple of pounds each week so I had money before my first UC payment (it takes at least five or six weeks for your first payment to arrive after you make your claim)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Universal Credit?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Universal Credit is a new benefit for people in or out of work and is now live in all of our Local Authority areas.<\/p>\n<p>People making a new claim for benefit will be expected to claim Universal Credit.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s different because:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You will only get one monthly payment for your household<\/li>\n<li>Universal Credit will be paid into your bank account<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re entitled to help with your rent this will be included in the monthly payment and you will have to pay the rent to United Welsh yourself<\/li>\n<li>You will have to apply for and manage your Universal Credit online<\/li>\n<li>You will still need to claim some benefits separately, like Council Tax Reduction and Personal Independence Payment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Universal Credit is replacing the benefits below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Housing Benefit<\/li>\n<li>Child Tax Credit<\/li>\n<li>Working Tax Credit<\/li>\n<li>Income Support<\/li>\n<li>Employment Support Allowance (income related)<\/li>\n<li>Job Seekers Allowance (income based)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Changes in circumstances can also mean our tenants will need to apply for Universal Credit.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what could prompt a change:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Found fit for work so ESA stops<\/li>\n<li>Relationship starts or ends<\/li>\n<li>Bereavement<\/li>\n<li>Change in working hours<\/li>\n<li>Loss of job<\/li>\n<li>Becoming a carer<\/li>\n<li>Youngest child turns five<\/li>\n<li>Going back to work after sickness<\/li>\n<li>New claim for Housing Benefit<\/li>\n<li>Moving from one Local Authority to another<\/li>\n<li>Change to jobseekers allowance and income support due to birth of a child<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Your checklist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To make your claim process as quick and easy as possible, make sure you\u2019ve got all the following information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your National Insurance number and your partner\u2019s National Insurance number<\/li>\n<li>Your postcode<\/li>\n<li>Your email address (you can\u2019t claim without one!)<\/li>\n<li>Your phone number (landline or mobile)<\/li>\n<li>Your landlord&#8217;s address<\/li>\n<li>Your rent (contact us if you\u2019re not sure of the correct amount)<\/li>\n<li>Your tenancy start date<\/li>\n<li>Details of any children \/ relatives \/ other people who live with you, including their name, date of birth, relationship to you and income<\/li>\n<li>Details of any savings<\/li>\n<li>Details of any other money you receive<\/li>\n<li>The name and address of your bank, your account number and sort code<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Universal Credit campaign mascot Bob is here to help you get ready for Universal Credit.
